B.W.L.T.

Yesterday afternoon, Bacon not only made a delicious meal, but it created bonding time for a group of friends.  Benny, Layne, Jimmy (Check out his blog! http://130millionbonjovifanscantbewrong.blogspot.com/ Trust me, it's more than just Bon Jovi.), and myself constructed a B.W.L.T.  That's right, I finally kept my promise.  Although Mark was unable to make it due to conflicts with baseball, but he was with us in spirit.  Let me take you through the process of producing the Incredible B.W.L.T.

First, the shopping list: One large tomato, Half a head of lettuce, Long sub roll, and TWO packages of Bacon.

You can use any bread you like.  We went to Ukrop's (I don't say Martin's) and they had the perfect french bread roll.  Important note; buy THICK QUALITY Bacon.  Unfortunately, my mother picked up Bacon for my prior to our shopping trip so i had no control over what we got.  If you use thin fatty Bacon, not only will you have trouble weaving the bacon, but it is also likely that your weave will fall apart when you flip it.

On to the weave.  Take a baking sheet, cover the baking sheet with aluminum foil, and spray with PAM.  If the Bacon were to stick it would be disastrous when you got to flip it.  Line the sheet with Bacon vertically side by side.

Then fold back every other slice and lay slices all the way across horizontally.  It's best to start in the middle.  Then fold those back, and repeat by folding the other slices back the next time.

Repeat this process for both sides.  The end product will look something like this.  As a side note we found ham in one of the packs of Bacon.

Cook it in a 400 degree oven until the top is cooked or getting a little crispy.  People, preheat your ovens.  It doesn't take that long and it drastically affects cooking times.  While the Bacon is cooking, tend to rest of the sandwich.  Cut the tomato in half then cut into hearty slices, but not too thick to where you don't have enough to cover the sandwich.  Cut the head of lettuce in half, then dice into small pieces.  You can cut it into shreds or leave it as leaves, but I prefer bite sizes pieces.

Time for the flip.  You need to drain excess grease from the pan.  Be careful, the grease is scalding hot.  When flipping, make sure to have equal support across the whole weave.  I used three spatulas to lift it, because im fancy like that.

Time to begin construction!  Cut the roll down the middle and spread mayo on both halves of the roll.  Lay the tomatoes along one half and spread the lettuce across the other.   Cut your finished Bacon weave into two halves horizontally, and lay them on top of the tomatoes.  Then in one fluid motion flip the top onto the rest of the sandwich.  If you do it right you wont lose any lettuce.  Finally cut into equal shares and enjoy!

I honestly had a great time making this thing.  It combined three of my favorite things; cooking, friends, and Bacon.  It is really awesome to have some fun with friends in the kitchen.  I recommend not only the sandwich (which tasted like a gift from Heaven), but try getting your group of friends to make it with you! Until next readers, which honestly isn't planned out yet, but I'm sure after this epic weekend unfolds I will come up with something brilliant.

Well this is technically late and over due, but oh well.  I just got home from watching the Titanic.  It is the first time I have watched it all the way through and it is definitely an amazing movie.  I was also very impressed with the RealD 3D.  Once i got over the fact I was paying $15 for the ticket that is.  I recommend seeing it before it leaves theaters.  Now it's time to get to the point. The BACON.  I have been promising one Mark Morris that we would do a bacon weave since i started this blog.  That weave will hopefully be made within the next week; home work permitting.  We are hoping to do some form of BWLT, a Bacon Weave Lettuce and Tomato.  Basically the bacon weave will be the bun.  That's all.  Stay classy Chesterfield.

This week instead of cooking I'll be talking about some interesting things that have been popping up recently.  Bacon has apparently been becoming popular recently.  It's almost as if we are going through a bacon revolution.  You can get everything from Baconsalt and bacon chocolate to a wallet that is made to look like it's made of bacon.  I was at stony point recently and happened to stop in The Sweet Shoppe.  As I walked by the register all I could do was stare in amazement at an entire box of these.
I never thought I'd see a chocolate bar with bacon and smoked salt in it.  I couldn't help myself, I had to get one.  I was thrown off a little when I flipped it over and saw the three dollar price tag for a tiny three ounce bar.  Then I thought where else would I ever see bacon chocolate?  Also I had the excuse that I was buying it for my blog!  Trust me, it was well worth the three bucks.  It has exactly what we crave.  It is the perfect combination of salty and sweet.  Later, I looked up the company behind it.  Vosges Haut Chocolat actually has an entire line up of bacon and chocolate contemplations on their website.  They have everything from a box of bacon chocolate truffles to bacon chocolate chip pancake mix.  The price is a major down fall though.  The pancakes would cost you twelve bucks and the truffles are an intimidating forty-eight bucks.  That's without tax and shipping.  There are hundreds of products out there.  The website thinkgeek.com (which I am personally a big fan of) has tons of stuff.  Even a talking bacon strip plush!
